Preview: Midland Visits Frank Phillips in Junior College Men’s Basketball
MIDLAND, Texas (Interstat) — The undefeated and top-ranked Midland College Chaparrals put their perfect record on the line Thursday against the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.
Midland (15-0) enters the contest as the clear favorite, boasting a high-powered offense that has averaged 92.6 points per game during its win streak. The Chaparrals are coming off an 82-63 victory over Odessa on Monday, their 15th consecutive win by double digits.
A key player for Midland is guard Antoine Bo Hurns, who is averaging 22.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists over his last three games. Hurns scored 19 points with six assists in the win over Odessa. He is supported by a deep roster that includes Cayden Reed and Solomon Ominu, who combined for 33 points in Monday’s victory.
Frank Phillips (6-8) looks to pull off a major upset at home. The Plainsmen are seeking consistency after a 66-85 loss at South Plains on Monday. Guard Bryceson Dobie leads the team’s offensive efforts, averaging 15.3 points over his last three contests, including a 19-point performance against South Plains.
The Plainsmen’s most notable recent result was a 102-95 overtime victory against Clarendon on Jan. 8, demonstrating their capability to win in a shootout. They will need a similar offensive outburst and a stout defensive effort to challenge Midland’s juggernaut.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the Western Junior College Athletic Conference foes. They are scheduled to meet again in Midland on Feb. 16.
Tip-off is set for Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at the Frank Phillips College gymnasium in Borger, Texas.
