San Diego Mesa vs Palomar
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Palomar Comets delivered an offensive showcase, overwhelming the visiting San Diego Mesa Olympians 109-67 in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball game Saturday.
The contest was effectively decided in a dominant first-half performance by the Comets, who built an insurmountable lead by halftime. Palomar exploded for 54 points in the opening quarter and added 55 more in the second to take a 109-67 lead into the break, a margin that remained unchanged through a scoreless second half as the game concluded after two quarters.
The most important part of the game was Palomar’s immediate and overwhelming offensive eruption from the opening tip. After a sloppy start featuring turnovers on the first three possessions, the Comets quickly found their rhythm and never relented. They shot 51.3 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range in the game, consistently capitalizing on Mesa’s mistakes and poor shooting. The Olympians struggled mightily, converting only 37.5 percent of their field goal attempts and a dismal 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. Their troubles were compounded at the free-throw line, where they made only 15 of 38 attempts.
Isaiah Pomare led all players and was the top star for Palomar, recording a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds in 27 minutes. He was one of six Comets to score in double figures, highlighting a balanced and potent attack. Tore-Andre Gray added 22 points, while Angel Ochoa scored 14 points and dished out six assists. Benjie Nudo contributed 12 points and nine rebounds, Jaidyn Norman scored 14 points and Justin White added 12.
For San Diego Mesa, Jeremiah Parker finished with 10 points. Mohamed Abdisalan pulled down nine rebounds.
Palomar also controlled the boards, outrebounding Mesa 54-40, which included 15 offensive rebounds leading to second-chance opportunities.
The victory improved Palomar’s season record to 9-4, while San Diego Mesa fell to 6-10.
According to the game’s statistical data, Palomar scored 109 points on 92 possessions for an offensive rating of 118.0. San Diego Mesa managed 67 points on 90 possessions for an offensive rating of 74.4.
