Feather River vs Chabot

HAYWARD, Calif. (Interstat) — Two of California’s top men’s junior college basketball teams will meet Saturday when the Feather River Golden Eagles visit the Chabot Gladiators.

Both teams enter the Jan. 3 matchup with 10-win records. Chabot (10-3) has been strong at home and is riding momentum from a narrow 81-80 road victory over Diablo Valley on Dec. 19. The Gladiators’ only losses this season came against San Jose, Marin and Modesto.

Feather River (10-5) looks to rebound from its most recent outing, an 86-75 home loss to Cabrillo on Dec. 20. That defeat snapped a four-game winning streak for the Golden Eagles, which included decisive road victories over Gavilan, Sacramento City and American River in mid-December. Their season has been marked by high-scoring offense but occasional defensive lapses.

This non-conference clash presents a key resume opportunity for both squads before league play intensifies next week. Feather River will begin Golden Valley Conference action on Jan. 7 at Butte. Chabot opens Coast Conference-North play on Jan. 7 at Skyline.

The Gladiators have showcased a balanced attack and stout defense, holding opponents under 70 points in six of their wins. The Golden Eagles have proven they can win on the road, posting a 6-3 record away from Quincy, and have surpassed 90 points five times this season.

Saturday’s game will hinge on whether Chabot’s defense can contain Feather River’s up-tempo offense and if the Golden Eagles can slow a Chabot team that has protected its home court effectively. Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon at Chabot College.
