Southwest Tennessee vs Columbia State

Preview: Southwest Tennessee at Columbia State Men’s Basketball

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Columbia State Chargers look to rebound from a lopsided loss when they host the Southwest Tennessee Salukis in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.

Columbia State (6-3) enters the contest following an 87-59 home defeat to Walters State on Jan. 10. The Chargers had previously won three of their last four, including a decisive 72-55 victory over Shelton State on Dec. 19. A key to their success has been forward Jamison Glass, who recorded a double-double in that win with 16 points and 11 rebounds. In the loss to Walters State, Glass posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Southwest Tennessee (1-7) snapped a seven-game season-opening skid with an 83-78 road win at Dyersburg State on Jan. 7. The Salukis are led by standout Jeremiah Hayes, who dominated in that victory with 23 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks in 34 minutes. Eric Jones added 15 points and Dominic Taylor scored 17 off the bench.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. The Chargers have shown a high-powered offense at times, scoring over 100 points in a win against Dyersburg State earlier this season. The Salukis have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 80.6 points per game.

For Columbia State, containing Hayes will be a primary focus as they aim to improve to 7-3. Southwest Tennessee will seek to build on its first victory and secure a rare road win behind Hayes’ all-around play.

The teams are scheduled to meet again in Memphis on Feb. 25.
