Walters State vs Motlow State
Undefeated Walters State Faces Motlow State in Key JUCO Clash
MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (Interstat) — The undefeated Walters State Senators put their perfect record on the line Wednesday night in a men’s junior college basketball matchup against the Motlow State Bucks.
Walters State (12-0) enters the contest riding a dominant start to the season, having won every game by double digits. Their average margin of victory is 38.8 points. The Senators are coming off an 87-59 road win over Columbia State on Saturday.
Motlow State (6-6) looks to rebound after a 103-91 home loss to Chattanooga State last Wednesday. The Bucks have alternated wins and losses in their last six contests.
A key matchup will feature Walters State guard Taquez Butler against Motlow State forward Colton Wilbanks. Butler is averaging 13.7 points and 4.7 assists over his last three games, including a 22-point performance against Columbia State. Wilbanks is coming off a standout double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds in the loss to Chattanooga State.
The Senators have showcased a balanced and overpowering attack. In their latest win, Jayden Nesbitt added eight points, seven rebounds and four blocks, while Brian Carter contributed six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Motlow State will need a major defensive effort to slow the Walters State offense, which has scored 100 or more points five times this season. The Bucks have allowed an average of 84.8 points per game.
Despite the stark contrast in records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow, high-scoring affair with a predicted final score of 100-100.
Wednesday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again at Walters State on Feb. 25.
Tipoff is set for Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Motlow State’s Copperweld Arena.
