Chipola vs Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (Interstat) — A marquee men’s junior college basketball showdown is set for Wednesday when the Gulf Coast State Commodores host the Chipola Indians in a clash of Panhandle Conference and national contenders.

The Commodores (13-1), playing at home, enter with just one blemish on their record—a three-point loss to Daytona State in November. They are riding a six-game winning streak, most recently an 83-69 road victory at Bishop State on Jan. 9. Guard Trent Lincoln powered that win with 20 points and eight assists, while Devontes Cobbs added a game-high 25 points.

The visiting Indians (14-3) aim to rebound from a narrow 75-71 home loss to Pensacola State this past Saturday, which snapped a five-game win streak. Chipola’s offense is fueled by guard Desmond Kent Jr., who scored 21 points in 37 minutes during a tight 64-61 win at Bishop State on Jan. 5.

This matchup features two of the region’s most potent offenses. Gulf Coast State has scored 100 or more points in three games this season, showcasing deep firepower. Chipola has demonstrated resilience, with multiple close victories, including an overtime win over Polk State.

The game will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 31 in Marianna. Wednesday’s winner will gain an early upper hand in the conference race.

Gulf Coast State’s next game is at Tallahassee State on Saturday. Chipola’s next contest is at home against Tallahassee State on Jan. 21.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at the Billy Harrison Field House.
