East Georgia State vs Albany Tech
Preview: East Georgia State Bobcats at Albany Tech Titans
ALBANY, Ga. (Interstat) — Two Georgia junior college men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the East Georgia State Bobcats visit the Albany Tech Titans.
The non-conference matchup tips off at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14.
East Georgia State (4-11) enters with a boost of confidence after snapping a three-game skid with a 92-85 home victory over Georgia Highlands this past Saturday. The Bobcats’ offense, which had been held under 80 points in eight of their previous nine games, broke out in the win.
Albany Tech (3-6) is also coming off a dominant performance, having routed Andrew College 88-51 last Wednesday. The Titans’ defense held Andrew to just 51 points, a season-best effort for Albany Tech.
A key matchup will feature two recent standout performers. For East Georgia State, forward Chibueze Irojanma is a player to watch. He posted 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes in a close loss to South Georgia State on Jan. 7. His interior presence will be critical against Albany Tech’s frontcourt.
The Titans counter with guard Tyler Husband, who stuffed the stat sheet in the win over Andrew. Husband logged 16 points, five rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes, showcasing his all-around game. He will be supported by Londarius King, who had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in that contest, and Brennan Wansley, who added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Both teams have struggled for consistency this season. The Bobcats’ win over Georgia Highlands marked only their second victory since late November. The Titans’ 37-point win over Andrew was a bright spot in a schedule that has seen them lose four of their last six, including a 78-46 defeat at Chipola College on Dec. 17.
This game serves as a standalone contest before each team resumes its respective regional schedule. They are scheduled to meet again in Swainsboro on Feb. 18.
Wednesday’s winner will gain a measure of positive traction, while the loser will look to regroup quickly with conference play looming.
