El Camino vs Mount San Antonio

WALNUT, Calif. (Interstat) — The Mount San Antonio men’s basketball team delivered a dominant performance Friday night, overwhelming El Camino 88-60 in a California Community College Athletic Association game.

The Mounties, improving to 11-2, seized control immediately with a blistering first-quarter offensive display. They scored 41 points in the opening period, establishing a 15-point lead that the Warriors never seriously threatened. El Camino fell to 9-6.

The most important part of the game was Mount San Antonio’s early and sustained defensive pressure, which fueled its transition offense and created a decisive gap. The Mounties forced 13 El Camino turnovers and converted them into easy scoring opportunities, particularly in a first quarter where they shot 50% from the field. This defensive intensity set the tone, allowing Mount San Antonio to build a lead that grew to as many as 28 points in the second quarter.

Ethan Nelson was the top star for Mount San Antonio, posting a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. Dayvon Gates added 18 points and a game-high six assists, while Ryan Wheeler contributed 10 points, five rebounds and four blocks.

For El Camino, Linken Tate led all scorers with 21 points, adding five rebounds. Landon Starnes scored 12 points, but the Warriors struggled offensively as a team, shooting just 38% from the field and committing more turnovers than assists.

Mount San Antonio’s efficiency was stark. The Mounties scored 88 points on 69 possessions for an offensive rating of 127.2, while El Camino managed only 60 points on 68 possessions for a rating of 88.8. The Mounties also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 26 of 32 attempts compared to El Camino’s 14 of 16.

The Mounties dominated the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 36-25, including a 12-8 advantage on the offensive boards.

El Camino entered the game having won three of its last four, but could not match the Mounties’ pace or precision. Mount San Antonio has now won three straight games since its last loss on Dec. 19.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, Mount San Antonio had a 95.2% probability to win the contest.
