Citrus vs Sequoias

VISALIA, Calif. (Interstat) — A clash of California community college powers headlines the state’s junior college basketball slate Friday as the No. 1-ranked Citrus Owls visit the Sequoias Giants.

The Owls (11-1), whose only loss came in double-overtime at Fullerton in November, enter on an eight-game winning streak. They have been dominant, winning those games by an average margin of 33.5 points. Their most recent outing was a 109-76 rout of Riverside on Dec. 19, where Dev Hamilton scored 24 points with eight rebounds in just 24 minutes. Hamilton has been a consistent force, averaging 14.8 points and 5.0 rebounds over his last four contests.

The Giants (9-4), playing at home, look to bounce back from a narrow 78-76 road loss to Ventura on Dec. 30. In that game, guard Mason Dorsey nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with 23 points, five rebounds and seven assists in 39 minutes. Dorsey has showcased versatile playmaking ability, recording a 10-assist game against Orange Coast on Dec. 19.

Citrus’s high-octane offense has regularly surpassed the century mark, while Sequoias has shown both explosive scoring potential, as in a 121-point performance against Butte, and grit in close games. The matchup pits Citrus’s statewide stature against a Sequoias team seeking a signature win to bolster its own playoff resume.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PST tipoff at Porter Field House. Following this non-conference test, both teams begin their respective conference schedules next Wednesday, Jan. 7, with Citrus traveling to Los Angeles Valley and Sequoias hosting Coalinga.
