Ohlone vs Siskiyous
WEED, Calif. (Interstat) — Two California junior college men’s basketball teams seeking consistency will close their non-conference schedules against each other on New Year’s Eve when the Ohlone Renegades visit the Siskiyous Eagles on Wednesday.
Ohlone (6-6) enters the matchup at .500, but has dropped three of its last four games. The Renegades are coming off a narrow 96-94 home loss to Los Medanos on Dec. 19. Their season has been marked by volatility, featuring both a 103-point offensive outburst and a 48-point victory over San Joaquin Delta on Nov. 19, as well as several tight defeats, including three losses by five points or fewer.
Siskiyous (5-11) looks to rebound from a 79-52 road loss to San Mateo on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to find a sustained rhythm, alternating wins with multiple-game losing streaks. Their most recent victory was a narrow 49-48 defensive win at Merced on Dec. 17. Siskiyous is 3-4 at home this season.
The game presents a contrast in recent performance. Ohlone’s offense has averaged 84.2 points per game in its last five contests, but its defense has allowed 86.2 per game in that stretch. Siskiyous, meanwhile, has averaged just 62.8 points per game over its last five, while surrendering 78.4.
Despite the records, a projection from Interstat’s game simulator anticipates a high-scoring and even contest, predicting a 100-100 draw. This suggests a potential shootout, which would favor Ohlone’s more potent recent scoring form against a Siskiyous team that has been held under 75 points in 11 of its 16 games.
For Ohlone, the game is a final tune-up before opening Coast Conference-North play at home against San Mateo on Jan. 7. Siskiyous will begin Golden Valley Conference action on the road at Lassen on Jan. 7.
Wednesday’s matchup at Siskiyous College is scheduled for a 3 p.m. PST tip-off.
