Northeastern Oklahoma A&M vs Northern Oklahoma-Enid
ENID, Okla. (Interstat) — A surging Northern Oklahoma-Enid squad will look to protect its home court against a Northeastern Oklahoma A&M team finding its rhythm when the Jets host the Golden Norsemen in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Monday.
The Jets (6-2) enter on a high note after a 94-84 victory over Murray State (Okla.) last Thursday. Their season has been marked by consistent offense, scoring at least 78 points in six of their eight games, with the only setbacks coming in a close overtime road loss to Eastern Oklahoma State and a defeat to Barton.
They face a Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (4-7) team that has won two straight, including a 96-88 win over Seminole State (Okla.) on Jan. 7. The Golden Norsemen’s early season struggles, which included a 1-6 start, appear to be turning around with consecutive victories.
A key factor in the Norsemen’s resurgence is the all-around play of Justin McCarter. The standout guard is coming off a near-triple-double performance against Seminole State, posting 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. In the prior win at Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa, he recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. His facilitation has also boosted teammates like Keyne Costa (17 points vs. Seminole State) and Damario Adams Jr. (18 points, five blocks).
Northern Oklahoma-Enid will counter with a balanced attack that has produced wins over teams like Independence (110 points) and Missouri State-West Plains. The Jets’ defense will be tasked with containing McCarter’s playmaking to disrupt the Norsemen’s recent offensive flow.
This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Miami, Oklahoma, on Feb. 12.
Following this game, Northern Oklahoma-Enid travels to face Western Oklahoma State on Thursday. Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s next contest is at Redlands on Jan. 15.
