Dawson vs Western Nebraska

Dawson, Western Nebraska Set for Monday Clash in Scottsbluff

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (Interstat) — A surging Dawson men’s junior college basketball team will look to continue its winning ways against a struggling Western Nebraska squad when the Buccaneers visit the Cougars on Monday, Jan. 12.

The Buccaneers (11-6) enter on a three-game win streak, most recently defeating Northwest 92-88 at home on Saturday. Guard Kai Guess led the way with 21 points in 22 minutes, continuing a run of strong play. Over his last five games, Guess is averaging 13.0 points per contest, including a 21-point performance in the Jan. 10 win.

Dawson’s recent success has been bolstered by contributions from Sharif Yakubu and Brandon Hymes, who combined for 20 points and 10 assists against Northwest.

Western Nebraska (4-11) seeks to halt a slide after falling 94-84 at Gillette on Thursday. The Cougars have lost eight of their last ten. Guard Kellon Harris has been a bright spot, erupting for 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a win over Casper on Jan. 7, followed by a 26-point effort in the loss to Gillette.

The matchup pits Dawson’s momentum against a Western Nebraska team in need of a turnaround at home. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the contest is projected to be a nail-biter, ending in a 100-100 tie.

Following Monday’s game, Dawson will host North Dakota State College of Science on Jan. 18. Western Nebraska’s next contest is at home against Lamar on Jan. 14.

Tip-off is scheduled for Monday evening at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff.
