Bakersfield vs Los Angeles Pierce
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — The Bakersfield College Renegades will look to build on an explosive offensive performance when they visit the Los Angeles Pierce College Brahmas in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Bakersfield (7-6) enters riding the momentum of a 100-88 home victory over Oxnard on Dec. 20, a game in which sophomore forward Zykiar Henderson dominated with 39 points and 16 rebounds. The Renegades have shown a high-scoring capability, averaging over 90 points in their last two wins, but have struggled with consistency, dropping three of their previous four games before the Oxnard win.
The Brahmas (4-9) seek to halt a six-game losing streak, their most recent a 94-64 road loss to Los Angeles Trade Tech on Dec. 20. Pierce has been held under 80 points in five of those six defeats during the skid. Forward Nicolai Stanic, who had 12 points and eight rebounds against Trade Tech, will be a key figure for the home team.
Henderson is the undeniable focal point for Bakersfield. Over his last five games, he is averaging 22.8 points and 9.4 rebounds, including a 39-point, 16-rebound masterpiece in his last outing. Guard Zach Garnett, who had 17 points and seven assists against Oxnard, provides backcourt balance.
Stanic has been a steady presence for Pierce amidst the team’s struggles, averaging 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season. The Brahmas will need increased production from their perimeter players to keep pace with Bakersfield’s attack.
This non-conference contest serves as a final tune-up for both teams before league play resumes in January. Bakersfield will open Western State Conference action at home against Santa Monica on Jan. 7. Pierce begins Western State-South play on the road at Canyons on Jan. 3.
Tip-off is set for Tuesday night at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.
