Fullerton vs San Diego City

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two of California’s top men’s junior college basketball teams will meet in a non-conference rematch Tuesday when the No. 1-ranked Fullerton Hornets visit the San Diego City Knights.

The Hornets (12-1), whose only loss was a 39-37 defensive struggle at Santa Monica on Dec. 17, enter on a dominant run. They are coming off an 89-60 rout of Mount San Jacinto on Dec. 20, where sophomore guard Yoda Oke erupted for 33 points in 29 minutes. Oke is averaging 20 points over his last three games, including a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double against West Los Angeles.

Fullerton already owns a 66-59 victory over San Diego City (9-4) from Dec. 12. In that contest, Oke contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds, while the Knights were led by guard Junior Camacho’s 7 points.

Camacho has been on a tear since, including a 23-point, 5-rebound, 5-assist performance in a 104-77 win over Grossmont on Dec. 17. The Knights have won three of their last four, with their lone loss in that span coming in overtime to Saddleback. They last played on Dec. 19, edging San Diego Mesa 88-85.

The Knights will seek to defend their home court and avenge their earlier loss, but face a formidable challenge in slowing Oke and a balanced Fullerton attack that features Jaedyn Patterson and Brayden Smith. Patterson dished out 6 assists in the win over Mount San Jacinto.

Tuesday’s result will provide momentum for both teams as they head into their respective conference schedules in January. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. PST at Harry West Gymnasium.
