Cuesta vs Shasta
REDDING, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Tuesday when Cuesta visits Shasta in the final day of the AHC Holiday Classic.
The non-conference matchup, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, pits the Cuesta Cougars (3-10) against the Shasta Knights (1-15). Tipoff is scheduled for Dec. 30.
Both teams enter on significant losing streaks. The Cougars have dropped four consecutive games, most recently a 114-69 road loss to Foothill on Dec. 20. The Knights’ skid extends to seven games, including an 85-67 defeat at San Joaquin Delta on Dec. 21.
Despite the records, a competitive game is anticipated. The Interstat game simulator projects a rare 100-100 final score, suggesting a potentially high-paced offensive contest.
Cuesta’s season has been marked by narrow defeats and offensive struggles. Three of their ten losses have come by four points or fewer, including a 57-55 loss to Los Angeles Valley and a 70-61 overtime defeat at San Mateo. Their most recent win was a 81-72 victory at Oxnard on Dec. 13.
Shasta has faced consistent challenges, with only one victory since November—a 79-68 home win over Mendocino on Dec. 12. The Knights have allowed 85 or more points in nine of their sixteen games this season.
The holiday classic contest represents a final opportunity for both squads to adjust before conference play resumes in January. Cuesta will open Western State Conference action at Redwoods on Jan. 3. Shasta begins Golden Valley Conference play at home against Redwoods on Jan. 7.
Tuesday’s game will be played at a neutral site as part of the classic tournament.
