Shasta vs Allan Hancock

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Monday when the surging Allan Hancock College Bulldogs host the struggling Shasta College Knights in a men’s junior college basketball game at the AHC Holiday Classic.

The Bulldogs (9-4) enter the 2025 tournament finale riding a four-game winning streak, most recently a dominant 82-39 road victory over Hartnell on Dec. 13. Their defense has been formidable during this stretch, holding opponents to an average of 58.5 points per game. Allan Hancock’s balanced attack, featuring consistent high-scoring outputs in the 70s and 80s, has fueled a successful start to the season.

Conversely, the Knights (1-15) are mired in a five-game skid and seeking any positive momentum. Their lone victory came over Mendocino (79-68) on Dec. 12. Since then, Shasta has struggled, including an 85-67 loss at San Joaquin Delta on Dec. 21. Defensive consistency has been a major challenge; the Knights have allowed 90 or more points in four of their last six contests.

The holiday classic matchup presents a clear challenge for Shasta against an Allan Hancock team that has excelled on its home floor. The Bulldogs are 5-1 in Santa Maria this season, with their only home loss a narrow 71-68 defeat to Cerritos in late November.

For Allan Hancock, the game serves as a final tune-up before Western State Conference play begins next week. The Bulldogs will look to maintain their defensive intensity and offensive rhythm against an overmatched opponent.

Shasta, meanwhile, aims to find a spark before its own conference schedule commences in January. The Knights must improve their defensive focus and shot selection to compete with the Bulldogs’ efficient system.

Following Monday’s contest, both teams will play again Tuesday in the classic’s final day. Allan Hancock will host Cypress, while Shasta will face Cuesta.

Tip-off is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 29, at Allan Hancock College.
