North Platte vs McCook

McCOOK, Neb. (Interstat) — A key early-season Region IX men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the McCook Indians host the North Platte Knights at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

The game will feature two Nebraska programs looking to establish momentum as conference play deepens. McCook enters with a 7-6 overall record, while North Platte sits at 5-6.

The Indians last played on Dec. 19, falling 80-74 at Salt Lake. In that contest, Djibril Diawara scored 20 points and dished five assists, Nate Coley added 17 points, and Mo Diao posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. McCook has shown resilience on the road this season, with notable wins at Eastern Wyoming and Laramie County in early December.

North Platte last took the court on Dec. 16, dropping an 82-70 decision at New Mexico. Brady Kennison led the Knights with 18 points in that game, with Justus Michael adding 13 points and four assists. Josh Osayanrhion contributed eight points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. The Knights have demonstrated offensive firepower, scoring 95 or more points in three games this season, but seek more consistency after a three-week break.

This contest opens a crucial two-game homestand for McCook, which will host Otero and Trinidad State next weekend. For North Platte, it begins a tough stretch of four of its next five games on the road.

The teams have faced two common opponents this season. Both defeated Eastern Wyoming, with North Platte winning 95-89 and McCook winning 77-66. Against Laramie County, North Platte lost 76-74, while McCook secured an 88-79 victory.

Historically, games between these two have been closely contested. They will meet again in North Platte on Feb. 11.

Saturday’s tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Central time at the Graff Events Center. The game will be the first of two regular-season meetings between the rivals.
