Preview: Georgia Highlands Chargers at East Georgia State Bobcats

SWAINSBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — The Georgia Highlands Chargers look to build on a dramatic victory when they visit the East Georgia State Bobcats in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Saturday.

Georgia Highlands (3-3) is coming off an 81-79 home win over Gordon State on Wednesday. The Chargers are led by guard Braylen Smith, who scored 26 points in 38 minutes in that victory. Justin Rushin added 17 points and Landen Williams grabbed eight rebounds for Georgia Highlands, which has alternated wins and losses over its last five games.

East Georgia State (3-11) seeks to halt a three-game skid after falling 83-75 at South Georgia State on Wednesday. Forward Chibueze Irojanma provided a bright spot for the Bobcats with 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes off the bench. Alfonzo Ross led all scorers in that contest with 21 points.

The Bobcats’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with their last win coming on Dec. 7 against Brunswick. They will need to contain Smith, who has emerged as a primary scoring threat for the Chargers.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be a high-scoring and even affair, with a projected final score of 100-100.

This game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at Georgia Highlands on Feb. 7.

Following this game, Georgia Highlands will host Central Georgia Tech on Jan. 14. East Georgia State travels to face Albany Tech on the same date.
