Gulf Coast State vs Bishop State
MOBILE, Ala. (Interstat) — The Gulf Coast State Commodores used a dominant first quarter and a balanced scoring attack to secure an 83-69 road victory over the Bishop State Wildcats in a men’s junior college basketball game Friday night.
The Commodores, improving to 13-1, seized control early with a 42-point opening quarter, fueled by efficient shooting and a disruptive defense that forced the Wildcats into a series of early mistakes. While Bishop State managed 32 points in the first, they could never fully recover from the initial deficit, trailing by 10 after one period and 83-69 at the final horn.
The most critical sequence of the game unfolded in the opening minutes, setting a decisive tone. After both teams missed their initial shots, Gulf Coast State guard Devontes Cobbs opened the scoring with a layup just 49 seconds in. On the ensuing possession, Bishop State’s Jeremiah Sem committed a turnover, which was immediately stolen by Gulf Coast State’s Trent Lincoln. Lincoln found Aiden Caulker for a 3-pointer, prompting a Bishop State timeout just 70 seconds into the game with the Wildcats already down 5-0. The Wildcats then turned the ball over again on their next possession, encapsulating a ragged start from which they never fully steadied themselves.
Trent Lincoln led Gulf Coast State with 20 points and eight assists, directing the offense throughout his 38 minutes. Devontes Cobbs added 25 points, and Aiden Caulker contributed 14, including four 3-pointers. Iyran Francis provided a strong interior presence with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Alpha Barry anchored the defense with 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Bishop State, which fell to 3-8, was carried by Tahsheim Gary’s game-high 25 points. Vophcy Prophete added 14 points, and Patrick Olajuwon finished with nine points and nine rebounds. The Wildcats struggled from the field, shooting just 37% overall and 23% from 3-point range.
