Cloud County vs Fort Hays Tech
GOODLAND, Kan. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Cloud County Thunderbirds visit the Fort Hays Tech Trailblazers at Max L. Jones Fieldhouse.
Both teams enter the contest with .500 aspirations, as Cloud County sits at 5-7 overall and Fort Hays Tech at 6-7. The matchup offers each squad a chance to string together consistency in a tightly balanced region.
The Thunderbirds are coming off a dominant 95-73 home victory over Pratt on Saturday. Guard Syncere Burnette orchestrated the win with 16 points and seven assists in 30 minutes. He will be a primary focus for Cloud County’s offense, which saw additional balance from Elidjah Savane and DJ Holloway in the rout.
Fort Hays Tech looks to rebound from a narrow 76-74 road loss to Dodge City, also on Saturday. The Trailblazers have relied on the interior presence of Marquintez Dixon, who nearly posted a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds in the defeat. Dixon has been a consistent force on the glass, recording double-digit rebounds in two of his last three outings.
Recent results highlight both teams’ struggles to find a sustained rhythm. Prior to its win over Pratt, Cloud County had dropped three straight. Fort Hays Tech’s loss at Dodge City snapped a two-game winning streak that included a key conference victory over Barton.
The game will be the only scheduled meeting this season between the Thunderbirds and Trailblazers. For Cloud County, it begins a challenging stretch of road games. Fort Hays Tech opens a brief two-game homestand before hitting the road again next week.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, in Goodland.
