Southwest Tennessee vs Dyersburg State

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking to reverse difficult starts to the season will meet Wednesday when the Dyersburg State Eagles host the Southwest Tennessee Saluqis.

The game pits Dyersburg State (1-9) against Southwest Tennessee (0-7) in a matchup of programs with a combined one win through the early part of the 2025-26 schedule. Despite the records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring 100-100 tie, suggesting a potentially competitive contest.

Dyersburg State enters with momentum from its first victory, a 102-89 home win over Shawnee on Jan. 3. Sophomore guard Isaiah Claybrooks led the charge in that game, scoring 25 points in just one minute of play, a statistical anomaly likely indicating a data entry error for minutes played. Claybrooks has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 15 points over his last three games, including a 12-point effort in a loss to Shelton State on Dec. 18.

Southwest Tennessee looks to break into the win column after last playing on Dec. 10, a 86-76 road loss to Coahoma. In that game, Ja’Coby Lewis and Eric Jones each scored 14 points, while Jeremiah Hayes added 11 points and five assists. The Saluqis have lost their seven games by an average of 11.3 points.

The Eagles’ season has been marked by high-scoring affairs, with the team allowing 100 or more points in four of their nine losses. Their lone win showed offensive capability, with AJ Petway (18 points) and Emmanuel Okogie (13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists) joining Claybrooks as key contributors.

Following this game, Dyersburg State will travel to face Chattanooga State on Saturday. Southwest Tennessee’s next game is at Columbia State on Jan. 14. The two teams will meet again in Memphis on Feb. 18.
