Highland (Ill.) vs Triton
Preview: Highland (Ill.) Cougars at Triton Trojans
RIVER GROVE, Ill. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Highland (Ill.) Cougars visit the Triton Trojans.
Both teams enter the non-conference matchup with .500 aspirations, as Triton sits at 6-6 and Highland holds a 5-7 record. The game is a standalone contest before both programs resume their regular schedules.
The Cougars are looking to rebound from a difficult 82-55 home loss to Southeastern on Dec. 13, their most recent outing. In that game, Walter Hill Jr. scored 20 points and Anthony Washington dished out five assists. Forward Chin Hanson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, adding four blocked shots. Highland’s season has been inconsistent, with the team alternating wins and losses for much of November and December.
The Trojans last played on Dec. 18, securing a 78-63 road victory at Harry S Truman. In that win, Terez Holmes led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Miles Mitchell posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Will Scott added 16 points. Like Highland, Triton has struggled to find a sustained rhythm, following a 114-point offensive outburst against Wilbur Wright with a loss to Olive-Harvey in its next game.
The midweek clash presents a key opportunity for either squad to climb above .500. Highland will aim to leverage its interior presence, led by Hanson, while Triton will look to build on its balanced scoring from its last win.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest is projected to be a high-scoring and even affair, with a predicted final score of Triton 100, Highland (Ill.) 100.
The teams are scheduled to meet again in just over three weeks, on Jan. 29 at Highland.
