Shawnee vs Vincennes
Preview: Shawnee Saints at Vincennes Trailblazers
VINCENNES, Ind. (Interstat) — The undefeated Vincennes Trailblazers will put their perfect record on the line Wednesday night when they host the .500 Shawnee Saints in a men’s junior college basketball matchup.
The Trailblazers (11-0) have dominated their early-season schedule, winning by an average margin of 24.5 points. Their most recent victory was a 69-38 rout at Columbia State on Saturday, where they held their opponent to a season-low scoring total.
Vincennes is led by guard Drae Vasser, who is coming off a stretch of exceptional all-around play. In his last three games, Vasser averaged 23.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists, including a 23-point, 8-assist performance against Columbia State. Jalen Calloway, who scored 20 points in that game, provides a consistent secondary scoring threat.
Shawnee (3-3) arrives looking to rebound from a 102-89 road loss at Dyersburg State on Saturday. Despite the defeat, the Saints showed offensive firepower, with three players scoring at least 18 points: Zion Greene (20 points), Derek Shepard (20 points) and Alan King Jr. (18 points).
King Jr. has been a key performer for the Saints, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over his last two contests. His production will be critical against a stout Vincennes defense that has not allowed more than 80 points in a game this season.
The Saints’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with their three wins and three losses all decided by margins of nine points or fewer. Facing a Trailblazers squad that has comfortably dispatched every opponent presents their toughest challenge to date.
Historically, Vincennes has established itself as a national junior college power, and this year’s start reinforces that status. Shawnee will aim to disrupt Vincennes’ rhythm and find a way to slow Vasser’s multifaceted attack.
Wednesday’s game is the first of a regular-season series between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at Shawnee on Feb. 7.
Following this contest, Vincennes will hit the road to face Lake Land on Jan. 14. Shawnee returns home to host Olney Central on Jan. 10.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. EST at the Physical Education Complex.
