Midland vs Clarendon
Undefeated Midland Set for Road Test at Clarendon
CLARENDON, Texas (Interstat) — The undefeated and nationally ranked Midland College Chaparrals put their perfect record on the line Monday night against the struggling Clarendon College Bulldogs in a men’s junior college basketball matchup at Bulldog Gym.
Midland (12-0), which has dominated its schedule by an average margin of 21.8 points per game, enters as a heavy favorite. The Chaparrals are coming off a month-long break since their last outing, an 89-79 road win at Mineral Area on Dec. 5. In that game, guard Antoine Bo Hurns led the way with 27 points and eight rebounds, while forward Nayte Spargo added 17 points and five rebounds off the bench. Point guard Cayden Reed dished out five assists.
Their season resume includes decisive wins over then-Salt Lake Community College and a 30-point rout of Temple College. The Chaparrals’ high-powered offense has scored 88 or more points in eight of their 12 victories.
Clarendon (2-7) faces a daunting task, having lost five of its last six games. The Bulldogs are reeling from a 79-48 home loss to Western Oklahoma State on Dec. 13, where they shot just 32% from the field. In that contest, guard KD Davis scored 20 points with eight rebounds, and forward Alex Gilmore added 13 points. Clarendon’s two wins this season came against Seminole State (Okla.), but they have struggled defensively, allowing 90 or more points in four losses.
The Bulldogs will need a monumental defensive effort to slow Midland’s versatile attack. Clarendon’s rebounding, led by Kamoni Sieber’s eight boards last game, will be critical against a bigger Midland frontline.
This game marks the conference opener for both teams. Midland will look to avoid a letdown before a crucial home showdown against rival South Plains on Jan. 8. Clarendon begins a tough three-game homestand, seeking an upset to reverse its early-season fortunes.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST Monday at Bulldog Gym.
