Gadsden State vs Pellissippi State

Gadsden State Cardinals Look to Extend Winning Streak Against Struggling Pellissippi State Panthers

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Gadsden State Cardinals aim to build on a recent victory when they visit the struggling Pellissippi State Panthers in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Monday night.

The Cardinals (2-2) enter the contest coming off a 78-68 home win over Copiah-Lincoln on Dec. 11. Guard Tacarien Freeman led the way in that victory, scoring 20 points. Gadsden State’s other win this season was an 80-67 decision over these same Panthers on Nov. 1.

Pellissippi State (1-11) seeks to end an eight-game losing streak. The Panthers are coming off a 110-84 road loss to Wallace State on Dec. 19. Their lone victory was a 91-88 overtime win at Dyersburg State on Nov. 8. Since then, they have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 95.6 points per game during their skid.

Despite the disparity in records and recent form, a statistical projection adds intrigue. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a high-scoring 100-100 draw, suggesting a potentially competitive offensive showdown.

The Cardinals have shown a balanced attack. In their last outing, JoJo Lyles contributed 12 points in 38 minutes, while J’Davien Young added 7 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Their ability to control the tempo will be key against a Panthers squad that has frequently been involved in shootouts.

For Pellissippi State, finding consistent defensive stops has been the primary challenge. In their 11 losses, opponents have scored 82 or more points nine times. Slowing down Gadsden State’s Freeman and generating easier offensive opportunities will be critical to pulling off an upset at home.

This game represents the final non-conference tune-up for Gadsden State before it opens a string of 10 consecutive Alabama Community College Conference contests beginning Jan. 12. Pellissippi State jumps immediately into Tennessee Community College Athletic Association play, visiting Walters State on Jan. 7.

Tip-off is set for Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at Pellissippi State’s home court.
