Preview: Cerritos Falcons vs. MiraCosta Spartans

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Cerritos College men’s basketball team will look to extend its winning streak when it faces MiraCosta College in a non-conference matchup Sunday at the Clete Adleman Classic.

The Falcons (10-2) enter on a five-game win streak following a 74-70 victory over East Los Angeles on Wednesday. Cerritos has been dominant during its run, with an average margin of victory of 16.2 points in those five wins.

Cerritos is led by guard Kamaury Washington, who has been a consistent force. He is coming off a 21-point, 7-rebound performance against East Los Angeles and has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games. In the Falcons’ recent 81-60 win over Los Angeles Valley, Washington contributed 16 points and 4 assists.

The Spartans (5-5), playing on their home floor, have shown resilience, winning three of their last four contests. They are fresh off a 62-47 home victory over San Diego Mesa on Wednesday. MiraCosta will rely on forward Travis Snider, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in a narrow 58-56 road win at Orange Coast on Dec. 12.

While Cerritos boasts a potent offense that has scored 80 or more points four times this season, MiraCosta’s path to victory likely hinges on defense and rebounding. The Spartans have held opponents under 60 points in three of their five wins.

This contest serves as a final tune-up for both teams before holiday breaks. Cerritos will travel to face San Diego Miramar on Monday, while MiraCosta hosts Moorpark that same day.

Sunday’s game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. PST tip-off at MiraCosta College.
