South Georgia Tech vs Northwest Florida State

NICEVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Northwest Florida State Raiders showcased their high-powered offense and pulled away in the second half for a 93-78 victory over the South Georgia Tech Jets in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.

The game’s decisive stretch came late in the first half and established a pattern the Jets could not overcome. After South Georgia Tech’s Reggie Cleveland hit a layup to tie the game at 47 with 16:48 remaining in the second quarter, the Raiders unleashed a 15-2 run over the next four minutes. The surge was fueled by efficient shooting and forced turnovers. De’Erick Barber and Damarion Vann-Kelly hit three-pointers during the run, while Braylon Roman and Wes Rubin added baskets inside. The Jets committed three turnovers in that span, halting their own offensive flow and allowing Northwest Florida State to build a 62-49 lead from which South Georgia Tech never recovered.

Northwest Florida State’s offensive efficiency was the story of the game. The Raiders shot 56.5% from the field and 48.1% from three-point range, scoring 93 points on just 71 possessions for an offensive rating of 131.5. South Georgia Tech, by contrast, managed a 103.1 offensive rating, shooting 45.5% overall.

Roman, the Raiders’ top star, filled the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, narrowly missing a triple-double. Vann-Kelly provided a massive spark off the bench, leading all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range. Jonas Nichols added 17 points, while Rubin scored 13 and Justin Burns chipped in 12.

The Jets were led by Clark Mastin’s 17 points and four assists. Cleveland finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Matt Mbole contributed 13 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

South Georgia Tech kept pace early, trailing just 42-35 after a fast-paced first quarter. However, the Raiders’ superior shot-making and ability to capitalize on Jet mistakes – converting 12 South Georgia Tech turnovers into consistent scoring – allowed them to steadily expand their lead after the pivotal run. The Jets never got the deficit back to single digits in the final 14 minutes.

With the win, Northwest Florida State improved its season record to 14-1. South Georgia Tech fell to 4-10.

The Raiders are scheduled to travel to face Tallahassee State on Jan. 10. The Jets will host Central Georgia Tech on Jan. 7.
