Saddleback vs East Los Angeles

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (Interstat) — A pair of Southern California men’s junior college basketball teams looking to rebound from recent losses will meet Friday when the Saddleback Bobcats visit the East Los Angeles Huskies.

The non-conference matchup, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, pits Saddleback (8-5) against East Los Angeles (5-4). Both teams are coming off double-digit defeats in their last outings.

Saddleback fell 87-70 at Los Angeles Trade Tech on Monday, snapping a three-game winning streak. The Bobcats have shown resilience, however, winning two of their last three games in overtime. Guard Christopher Williams has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He is coming off a 13-point, six-rebound, six-assist performance in the loss.

East Los Angeles seeks to steady itself after a 113-80 home loss to Citrus on Dec. 12. The Huskies had won two straight prior to that defeat and will rely on forward Terrence Hampton to anchor the interior. Hampton is averaging 14.0 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last five contests, including a 13-point, eight-rebound effort against Citrus.

The Bobcats hold the edge in overall record, but both teams have demonstrated offensive capability, with each scoring 88 or more points in multiple games this season. Saddleback’s ability to handle the Huskies’ interior presence, led by Hampton, and East Los Angeles’ capacity to contain Williams’ all-around play will be key factors.

Friday’s game is the final scheduled non-conference tune-up for both programs before they break for the holidays and resume their respective conference slates in January.
