Riverside vs Citrus

GLENDORA, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Citrus College men’s basketball team, boasting one of the state’s best records, will host a Riverside City College squad riding a three-game win streak in a key non-conference California junior college matchup Friday.

The Owls (10-1), whose only loss came in double-overtime at Fullerton on Nov. 21, have been dominant lately, averaging 108 points over their last three victories. They are coming off a 102-78 road win at Fresno City on Tuesday.

The visiting Tigers (7-5) have found their rhythm after a mid-season skid, winning their last three games, including an 85-77 victory at Desert on Tuesday. In that game, PJ Pounds stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five blocks.

Pounds, a versatile forward, has been Riverside’s consistent force, scoring in double figures in six straight games and posting a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Ventura on Dec. 6. He will be central to the Tigers’ hopes of pulling an upset on the road.

Citrus counters with dynamic guard Amiri Meadows, a model of efficiency and playmaking. In his last four games, Meadows is averaging 14.5 points and 5.8 assists in just under 24 minutes per contest. His season high of 25 points came in the Owls’ lone defeat.

The game pits Riverside’s recent defensive resilience against Citrus’s high-octane offense. The Owls have scored at least 113 points in three games this season. The Tigers will need another all-around effort from Pounds and scoring support from guards Kollen Murphy and Tylon Williams, who combined for 36 points in the win over Desert.

Friday’s contest is the final scheduled non-conference game for both teams before they break for the holidays and turn their focus to conference play in January.
