Roane State vs Vincennes

Undefeated Vincennes Set for Clash with Roane State at Columbia State Classic

VINCENNES, Ind. (Interstat) — The undefeated and nationally-ranked Vincennes Trailblazers put their perfect record on the line Friday against the Roane State Raiders in a men’s junior college basketball showdown at the Columbia State Classic.

Vincennes (9-0), off to a dominant start, has won every game by double digits except for its most recent outing, a hard-fought 87-80 road victory over John A Logan on Dec. 10. The Trailblazers’ offense is fueled by a high-powered trio: Drae Vasser, who dropped 27 points and eight assists in that win, Lorenzo Malagnini (19 points, nine rebounds), and Dayton Williams (24 points).

They face a Roane State squad (6-4) looking to rebound from a 76-61 home loss to Columbia State on Dec. 6. The Raiders have shown resilience, winning three straight prior to that defeat, including a 74-63 victory at Pellissippi State on Dec. 3. However, their season includes blowout losses to quality opponents like Walters State (100-69) and Caldwell Tech (108-66), indicating potential vulnerability against elite competition.

The matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. Vincennes’ average margin of victory is 28.2 points, showcasing a stifling defense and efficient offense. Roane State’s path has been less consistent, though they have proven capable on the road, winning at Georgia Highlands and Dyersburg State in late November.

This game serves as a final non-conference test for both before league play intensifies. Vincennes will host Shawnee on Jan. 7 to open its conference schedule, while Roane State begins its conference slate at home against Chattanooga State on Jan. 14.

Friday’s contest at the Columbia State Classic tips off at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Trailblazers will aim to extend their streak to 10-0, while the Raiders seek a statement win to solidify their standing before the heart of their season.
