Cuyamaca vs San Diego Miramar

Two Struggling Teams Seek Momentum in Junior College Clash

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams with identical records and recent struggles will meet Wednesday when the Cuyamaca Coyotes visit the San Diego Miramar Jets.

The California Community College Athletic Association matchup tips off at 5 p.m. PST on Dec. 17, with both teams sporting 4-6 records. Each squad enters on a losing streak, looking to gain traction before the holiday break.

Cuyamaca has dropped three consecutive games, most recently a 77-63 road loss to Cypress on Dec. 12. In that contest, guard Jordan Garner led the Coyotes with 11 points and five assists in 32 minutes. Garner, a key player to watch, is averaging 11.3 points over his last four games, including an 18-point performance in a win over Desert on Nov. 19.

The Coyotes’ offense has been inconsistent, failing to reach 70 points in four of their six losses this season.

San Diego Miramar has also lost three straight, including a 56-51 defeat at Irvine Valley on Dec. 13. The Jets have been plagued by offensive droughts, scoring 60 points or fewer in three of their last four outings.

Forward Christian Washington is Miramar’s primary threat. He is averaging 12.0 points over his last three games, highlighted by a 15-point effort in a loss to Santiago Canyon on Dec. 12. The Jets will need more scoring support around him to break their skid.

Historically, the teams have split their last two meetings, with each winning on its home court last season. They are scheduled for a rematch at Cuyamaca on Jan. 26.

For both the Coyotes and Jets, Wednesday’s game represents a critical opportunity to halt negative momentum and level their records before conference play intensifies in January. The matchup hinges on which team can find a more consistent offensive rhythm and capitalize on the other’s current vulnerabilities.
