Bakersfield vs El Camino

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — Two California community college men’s basketball teams seeking consistency will meet Wednesday when the Bakersfield Renegades visit the El Camino Warriors.

The non-conference matchup pits Bakersfield (6-5) against El Camino (7-5). Both teams have experienced recent struggles, with each losing three of their last five games.

Bakersfield is coming off a heartbreaking 96-93 overtime loss to Ventura on Dec. 11. In that game, guard James Miller logged a season-high 36 minutes, contributing 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Miller has been a key facilitator for the Renegades, averaging 6.0 assists over his last three contests, but his scoring has fluctuated.

El Camino responded from a two-game skid with a dominant 92-58 victory over Coalinga on Dec. 13. Sophomore guard Rocco Gaffoglio led the way with 19 points in just 25 minutes, showcasing the explosive scoring ability he has displayed all season. Gaffoglio has scored 19 or more points in three of his last five games, providing a primary offensive spark for the Warriors.

The Renegades will look to control the tempo behind Miller, while containing Gaffoglio will be a primary defensive focus. Bakersfield’s offense has shown high potential, scoring 108 and 91 points in two November wins, but has also been held under 75 points in four of their five losses.

El Camino has proven resilient at home, sporting a 5-2 record in Torrance this season. Their defense will be tested by a Bakersfield team eager to rebound from its overtime defeat.

Wednesday’s game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. PST tipoff at the El Camino College Gymnasium.
