Rio Hondo vs Los Angeles Harbor

Roadrunners, Seahawks Meet in Non-Conference Tune-Up

WILMINGTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Harbor College men’s basketball team looks to snap a two-game skid when it hosts Rio Hondo College in a non-conference junior college matchup Wednesday.

The Seahawks (6-5) have dropped consecutive decisions to Santa Ana and Mount San Antonio after a four-game winning streak. The Roadrunners (4-8) arrive with momentum from an 82-79 road victory over Los Angeles Pierce last Friday.

Rio Hondo will lean on guard Matthew Rodriguez, who is coming off a 21-point, seven-rebound performance in that win. Over his last eight games, Rodriguez is averaging 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest, including two 21-point outings.

“He’s been our consistent force on both ends,“ Rio Hondo coach said of Rodriguez. “We need him to set the tone early on the road.“

Los Angeles Harbor will counter with guard Cesar Haros, who logged 35 minutes and contributed 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in the loss to Mount San Antonio. The Seahawks have struggled offensively in their two recent losses, averaging just 57.5 points.

“We’ve got to get back to sharing the ball and playing with energy,“ Harbor coach said. “It’s about responding before conference play begins.“

In their last outing, Rio Hondo’s Ryan Osborne (20 points, eight rebounds) and Bobby Reyes (16 points, eight assists) provided crucial support alongside Rodriguez. Harbor’s Kristian Jemerson and Zack Scarborough will be tasked with matching that production in the frontcourt.

This game serves as a final non-conference test for both programs before the holiday break. Harbor hosts Santiago Canyon on Friday, while Rio Hondo welcomes Antelope Valley.

Wednesday’s tip-off is set for 5 p.m. PST at the Seahawk Nest.
