Polk State vs Chipola

Polk State Seeks Reversal Against Chipola in NJCAA Rematch

MARIANNA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Chipola College men’s basketball team, riding a wave of momentum, will host struggling Polk State College in a junior college non-conference rematch on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

The Indians (12-2) enter on a five-game winning streak, including a 105-90 road victory over Southern Union State on Tuesday. They previously dominated Polk State 92-69 at home on Dec. 6.

Chipola’s balanced attack and stout defense have been central to its strong start. The Indians have held opponents to an average of 68.4 points per game during their current streak.

Conversely, the visiting Eagles (1-5) are mired in a five-game losing skid. Their most recent outing was a 80-66 home loss to South Georgia State on Dec. 20. Polk State’s lone win came in its season opener on Nov. 1.

A player to watch for Polk State is Josh Pitts. In the earlier loss to Chipola, Pitts logged 14 minutes, contributing 4 points, 2 rebounds and an assist. The Eagles will need a more significant contribution from him and others to challenge the Indians’ formidable home-court advantage.

The game offers Chipola a chance to solidify its record before Panhandle Conference play begins in January. For Polk State, it represents a final opportunity in the 2025 calendar year to build confidence and reverse its fortunes against a top-tier opponent.

Following this contest, Chipola will travel to face Bishop State on Jan. 5. Polk State returns home to host Santa Fe College on Jan. 3.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday afternoon at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center.
