Santa Rosa vs Skyline

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (Interstat) — A high-powered California junior college men’s basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs visit the Skyline Trojans.

Santa Rosa (7-2) enters looking to rebound from its most recent result, a 65-71 home loss to San Francisco on Dec. 5. That defeat snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bear Cubs. Skyline (5-4) rides a wave of momentum after a dominant 91-74 victory over Diablo Valley on Dec. 6, its second straight win.

The game features two of the state’s most dynamic scorers. Santa Rosa will lean on guard Travis Hightower, who is averaging 21 points per game over his last four contests. Hightower poured in a season-high 29 points in the loss to San Francisco. For Skyline, guard Zidane Auzarang is coming off a spectacular 42-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist performance against Diablo Valley. Over his last three games, Auzarang is averaging over 30 points per game.

The Bear Cubs have been strong offensively, scoring 72 points or more in six of their seven wins. Their two losses came against San Francisco teams, by scores of 64-51 and 71-65. The Trojans have shown volatility, with wins by 27 and 17 points in their streak, but also a 28-point road loss to Marin on Nov. 22.

Historically, Santa Rosa has faced a series of Northern California opponents, while Skyline’s schedule has been more geographically varied. This contest represents a key non-conference test for both programs before league play intensifies in January.

Saturday’s winner will gain a quality result ahead of the holiday break. Santa Rosa travels to face Foothill on Dec. 19, while Skyline hits the road to play at Lemoore on Dec. 18.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, at Skyline College in San Bruno.
