Allan Hancock vs Hartnell
SALINAS, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Saturday when the Allan Hancock Bulldogs visit the Hartnell Panthers in a California community college men’s basketball matchup at the Coach Carr Classic.
The Bulldogs (7-4) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a 76-68 home victory over Monterey Peninsula on Thursday. The Panthers (0-12), meanwhile, are searching for their first win after a 95-72 loss to Lemoore on Friday.
Allan Hancock, which defeated Hartnell 93-69 on Nov. 4, has found its rhythm offensively, averaging 81.3 points during its current streak. A player to watch for the Bulldogs is Sir Roberts. The guard is coming off a 15-point, six-rebound performance in just 17 minutes in a Dec. 6 win over Coalinga, providing efficient scoring off the bench.
Hartnell’s struggle has been consistent, with its 12 losses coming by an average margin of 18.8 points. A bright spot in the dismal start has been the recent explosion from guard Blake Dibble. In Thursday’s loss at Siskiyous, Dibble erupted for 26 points, five rebounds and five assists in a remarkable 41-minute outing, demonstrating his capability to carry the offensive load.
The Panthers will need another herculean effort from Dibble and significant defensive improvement to challenge the balanced Bulldogs. Hartnell has allowed 83.8 points per game this season, a vulnerability the Bulldogs’ surging offense will look to exploit.
For Allan Hancock, the game represents a chance to solidify its winning record before a holiday break. For Hartnell, it is another opportunity to break through in a season defined by frustration. Tipoff is set for Saturday, Dec. 13.
Following this contest, Allan Hancock will not play again until hosting Shasta on Dec. 29. Hartnell’s next game is at home against Moorpark on Jan. 2.
