Sequoias vs Siskiyous
WEED, Calif. (Interstat) — The College of the Sequoias Giants look to bounce back from a double-overtime defeat when they face the College of the Siskiyous Eagles in a California community college men’s basketball matchup Saturday at the Coach Carr Classic.
The Giants (6-3) enter following a taxing 90-86 double-overtime road loss at San Jose on Friday. Sequoias showed resilience in that defeat, led by sophomore guard Cameron Kelly’s 27 points, five assists and four rebounds in 43 minutes. Kelly has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 17.0 points over his last five games, including a 23-point performance in a win over Bakersfield on Nov. 22.
Siskiyous (4-9) seeks consistency after a 93-67 loss at Allan Hancock on Friday. The Eagles had won their previous game, 77-63 over Hartnell on Thursday. A key bright spot for the Eagles has been guard Malachi Green, who erupted for 25 points and five rebounds in a loss to Reedley on Dec. 5.
The Giants have dominated recent competition, with their three losses coming by a combined 11 points, including two in overtime. Their wins, however, have often been decisive, with an average margin of victory of 26.2 points.
Despite Siskiyous’ sub-.500 record, the Interstat game simulator projects a narrow, high-scoring affair with a predicted final score of 100-100. However, the same service’s ELO rating system heavily favors Sequoias, giving the Giants a 93.9% probability to win.
The game tips off at 3 p.m. PST on Saturday, Dec. 13, as part of the classic event. It is the final non-conference tune-up for Sequoias before it hosts Orange Coast on Dec. 19. Siskiyous travels to face Merced on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
