Santiago Canyon vs San Diego Miramar

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — A surging Santiago Canyon men’s basketball team looks to rebound from a narrow home loss when it visits San Diego Miramar in a non-conference junior college matchup Friday.

The Hawks (6-3) enter following a 68-64 defeat to Copper Mountain on Tuesday, a game in which they led at halftime. They will face a Miramar Jets squad (4-4) seeking consistency after a 59-54 loss to Fullerton on Dec. 3.

Santiago Canyon’s offense runs through sophomore guard Jacob De Armas, who is coming off a career-high 27-point performance in the loss. Over his last seven games, De Armas is averaging 13.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest, showcasing his all-around play. Support comes from forwards Ryan Weber and Paris Lassiter, who combined for 15 points and 15 rebounds Tuesday.

The Hawks have shown a potent attack, scoring 82 or more points in four wins, but have also shown vulnerability in recent tight losses to Palomar (99-96) and Cerritos (79-64).

San Diego Miramar has followed a pattern of wins and losses in alternating games for much of the early season. Their victories have been decisive, including a 91-57 rout of Rio Hondo and a 71-67 win over Victor Valley. However, offensive struggles surfaced in losses to Fullerton and Los Angeles Valley (59-53).

This contest represents a final tune-up for both teams before entering their respective conference schedules in January. The Jets will need to contain De Armas and the Hawks’ transition game to improve to .500 on the season.

Tip-off is set for Friday at Miramar College. The Jets hit the road to face Irvine Valley on Saturday, while the Hawks host Long Beach on Dec. 17.
