Antelope Valley vs Porterville
PORTERVILLE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Antelope Valley men’s basketball team delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance Friday night, overwhelming Porterville 84-44 in a non-conference junior college game.
The Marauders seized control immediately, opening the game on a 15-1 run fueled by a barrage of three-pointers and relentless defensive pressure. Antelope Valley’s explosive first quarter, in which it scored 47 points, effectively decided the contest before the Pirates could find any offensive rhythm. The Marauders led 47-22 after the first quarter and 84-44 at halftime, with the second half not played.
The most important stretch of the game was undoubtedly the opening minutes. Antelope Valley set a devastating tone by forcing turnovers on Porterville’s first two possessions and converting them into quick points, including a layup by Amado Coleman and a three-pointer from Trovary Cavil. Porterville’s first points came nearly three minutes into the game on a free throw, and the Pirates missed their first five field goal attempts while committing four early turnovers. By the time Porterville called its first timeout with 15:55 remaining in the first quarter, it already faced a 14-point deficit from which it never recovered.

Porterville managed an offensive rating of just 64.6.
Trovary Cavil led all scorers with 24 points, hitting six three-pointers in the first half. Amado Coleman, the Marauders’ top star, added 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks in just 23 minutes, continuing a strong stretch of recent performances. Mister Burnside directed the offense with eight assists.
For Porterville, Jermarcus Brown scored 12 points and David Johnson grabbed eight rebounds, but the Pirates struggled to generate consistent offense against Antelope Valley’s active defense, which also recorded 11 steals and seven blocks.
The victory improves Antelope Valley’s overall record to 5-5, while Porterville falls to 1-10. The game was organized by the California Community College Athletic Association.
Antelope Valley next plays at Rio Hondo on Dec. 19. Porterville is scheduled to host Gavilan on Saturday.
