Yuba vs Redwoods

Preview: Yuba 49ers vs. College of the Redwoods Corsairs

MODESTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Yuba College 49ers and the College of the Redwoods Corsairs will meet in a non-conference men’s junior college basketball game at the Modesto Tournament on Thursday.

The matchup features teams with contrasting recent results. Yuba (5-4) enters looking to rebound from a narrow 78-75 road loss to Butte last Sunday. The 49ers had won two straight prior to that defeat, including a 75-67 home victory over Columbia (Calif.) on Dec. 6.

Redwoods (7-4) arrives with momentum, coming off a 99-89 home win against Mendocino on Saturday. The Corsairs have won three of their last four contests, with the lone loss in that stretch a 102-83 defeat at Columbia (Calif.) on Nov. 29.

Offensive production has been a hallmark for both squads at times this season. Yuba has surpassed 100 points once, a 102-85 win at Sacramento City on Oct. 31, but has also been held under 70 points in three of its four losses. Redwoods has shown similar high-scoring capability, notching 106 points in a season-opening win at Los Medanos, but also suffering a lopsided 118-59 loss at San Francisco on Nov. 7.

The game is part of tournament play organized by the California Community College Athletic Association. For Yuba, it represents a final tune-up before Bay Valley Conference play begins in January. The 49ers travel to face Merritt on Dec. 16. Redwoods will continue its preseason schedule on Dec. 19 with a road game at Cuesta before opening Golden Valley Conference action at home on Jan. 3.

Thursday’s contest will be the first meeting between the programs this season. Tipoff is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Modesto Tournament site.
