San Joaquin Delta vs Los Medanos
Preview: Mustangs Clash in California Junior College Men’s Basketball
PITTSBURG, Calif. (Interstat) — A matchup of Mustangs will highlight the California community college men’s basketball slate Tuesday when San Joaquin Delta visits Los Medanos.
The visiting Mustangs from Stockton (5-2) enter with momentum, having won four of their last five games. They are coming off a narrow 79-77 home victory over Napa Valley on Dec. 2, where Alex Perasso posted 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Adam Perez added 19 points and seven assists in the win.
Perasso has been a key contributor for San Joaquin Delta, averaging 17 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last three contests. His season high of 29 points came in an 82-71 win over Mendocino on Nov. 13.
Los Medanos (3-6), the home Mustangs based in Pittsburg, looks to snap a two-game skid. They fell 88-85 at Diablo Valley on Dec. 3. Their season has been marked by close defeats, including a 106-102 loss to Sacramento City on Nov. 21 and a 71-68 loss at Contra Costa on Nov. 8. Their three wins have come by an average margin of just 4.3 points.
San Joaquin Delta’s offense has been potent, averaging 80.1 points per game. Beyond Perasso, consistent production has come from Perez and rebounder Cameron Lowe, who grabbed 10 boards against Napa Valley. The team’s two losses were decisive, however, including a 103-55 defeat at Ohlone on Nov. 19.
Los Medanos has struggled defensively, allowing 90.2 points per game. They will need to contain Delta’s balanced attack to improve their record.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff Tuesday at Los Medanos College.
Following this contest, San Joaquin Delta will host Contra Costa on Dec. 18. Los Medanos will travel to face Alameda on Dec. 16.
