RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Ventura College Pirates look to bounce back from their first loss in nearly a month when they face the Riverside City College Tigers in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Saturday at the Riverside Hypland Classic.

Ventura (8-2) enters having won seven of its last eight games, though it is coming off a 73-67 home loss to San Bernardino Valley on Thursday. Kam’Ron Cigar scored 19 points in the defeat, while Jerimiyah Smith added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Riverside (4-5) seeks to end a three-game skid, most recently a 71-65 home loss to Mount San Jacinto on Thursday. PJ Pounds and Kollen Murphy each scored 20 points in that contest for the Tigers.

The Pirates handily won the earlier meeting this season, routing Riverside 88-56 at home on Oct. 31. Ventura’s offense has been potent, averaging 88.8 points in its eight victories.

This non-conference game serves as a final tune-up before both teams resume their regional schedules next week. Ventura travels to Bakersfield on Dec. 11, while Riverside hosts San Bernardino Valley on Dec. 10.

Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon.
