WALNUT, Calif. (Interstat) — Two .500-seeking men’s junior college basketball teams will meet Friday when the Chaffey Panthers visit the Mount San Antonio Mounties.

The non-conference matchup features teams coming off extended breaks following losses on Nov. 26. Chaffey (4-4) fell 73-57 at Riverside, despite a near double-double from Kajuan Thomas (9 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks). Mount San Antonio (4-2) dropped a close 82-75 road game at Santiago Canyon, led by Dayvon Gates’ 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Panthers have shown offensive balance, with four players averaging double-figure scoring in their recent results. Their season has been marked by tight contests, including an 85-84 win over Cerritos and an 82-81 victory at Canyons.

The Mounties have been led by Gates, who averages a double-double, and a defense that has held three opponents under 70 points. Their most impressive win was an 87-60 rout of Riverside, the same team that defeated Chaffey.

Both teams will look to build momentum before their upcoming tournament schedules. Chaffey travels to Oxnard on Dec. 9, while Mount San Antonio hosts Los Angeles Harbor on Dec. 12.

Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Mount San Antonio College.
