Shasta vs Las Positas

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in trajectories will be on display Friday when the undefeated Las Positas Hawks face the winless Shasta Knights in a men’s junior college basketball game at the 42OT Annual James Clark Classic.

The Hawks (7-0), coming off a 95-60 road victory over Siskiyous on Thursday, have dominated their early schedule. Their average margin of victory is 31.1 points, with their closest contest being a one-point, 78-77 win over Cosumnes River on Nov. 8. Las Positas’s high-powered offense has consistently overwhelmed opponents, scoring 100 or more points in three games already this season.

Conversely, the Knights (0-10) are searching for their first victory after falling 86-73 at Cosumnes River on Thursday. Shasta has struggled on both ends of the floor, allowing an average of 82.1 points per game while scoring 70.7. Their season opened with a narrow 68-59 loss at Ohlone on Oct. 31, but they have since faced a series of double-digit defeats.

The statistical gulf between the teams is immense. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Las Positas is projected with a 97.10 percent probability to win Friday’s matchup. The game presents a clear opportunity for the Hawks to continue their perfect start, while the Knights face perhaps their toughest test yet in attempting to reverse their fortunes.

Following this neutral-site contest in Sacramento, both teams return to action Saturday. Las Positas travels to face Lassen, while Shasta heads home to host Reedley.

The California community college matchup is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, at the James Clark Classic venue.
