Ventura vs Mount San Jacinto

(Interstat) — A clash of two of California’s top junior college men’s basketball teams highlights the Riverside Hypland Classic on Wednesday, as the Ventura Pirates face the Mount San Jacinto Eagles.

Ventura (7-1) enters with momentum, coming off a 102-67 rout of Santa Monica on Nov. 26. Jerimiyah Smith led the way with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Snookey Wigington added 14 points and eight assists. The Pirates’ only loss was a seven-point road defeat against Cerritos in early November.

Mount San Jacinto (6-2) looks to rebound from a tough 133-91 loss to Citrus on Nov. 25, where Adrian Mosley scored 25 points. The Eagles had won five of their previous six, including a 92-75 victory at MiraCosta.

The matchup features two potent offenses. A Interstat game simulator projects a dead-even finish, predicting a 100-100 draw. The outcome could hinge on whether the Eagles’ defense can contain Ventura’s balanced attack or if the Pirates can slow Mosley, who has been a consistent scoring force for Mount San Jacinto.

Both teams continue tournament play on Thursday, with Ventura traveling to San Bernardino Valley and Mount San Jacinto facing Riverside.
