Chattanooga State vs Cape Fear
Preview: Chattanooga State Tigers at Cape Fear Sea Devils
WILMINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Chattanooga State Tigers squad will look to extend its winning streak when it visits the Cape Fear Sea Devils in a non-conference men’s junior college basketball game Sunday.
The Tigers (5-1) enter on a three-game win streak, including an 83-66 home victory over Caldwell Tech on Saturday. Their only loss came in a 110-70 road defeat to Walters State on Dec. 3. Chattanooga State has shown resilience, with tight road wins at Georgia Highlands (79-76) and Southwest Tennessee (86-78) highlighting its early schedule.
A key player for the visitors is Landon Bryant. The guard is coming off a 35-minute, 11-point, six-rebound, four-assist performance in the win at Georgia Highlands on Dec. 6. He also contributed 10 points and three assists in the victory at Southwest Tennessee on Nov. 22, providing steady backcourt production.
The Cape Fear Sea Devils (1-2) seek to rebound from a 90-75 road loss to Harcum on Friday. Their season opened with a split of a home-and-home series against East Georgia State, winning 77-67 on the road Nov. 1 before falling 81-72 at home on Nov. 15. Defense will be a point of emphasis for the Sea Devils, who have allowed an average of 82.3 points per game in their first three contests.
This matchup presents a contrast in momentum. Chattanooga State, playing its second game in as many days, will test its depth against a Cape Fear team that has had two days of rest since its last outing. The Tigers’ balanced attack, which has seen them eclipse 80 points in four of their six games, will challenge a Sea Devils defense looking to establish consistency.
For Cape Fear, protecting its home court against a team with a strong early-season record could provide a significant momentum shift as it looks ahead to its conference slate.
The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff at the Sea Devils’ home arena.
