McCook vs Indian Hills
OTTUMWA, Iowa (Interstat) — The Indian Hills Warriors showcased their offensive firepower and defensive dominance in a decisive 95-62 victory over the McCook Indians in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.
The game was effectively decided in a blistering first-half display by the 11-1 Warriors, who built a 55-40 lead by halftime and never relented. The most important stretch of the game came early in the second quarter, when Indian Hills transformed a competitive contest into a runaway. Leading 52-46 with just over 16 minutes to play, the Warriors unleashed a 13-0 run in under two minutes, fueled by turnovers and transition scoring. The surge featured a dunk by Chiang Ring, a 3-pointer from Chaz Watson and a layup by Watson, pushing the lead to 65-46 and forcing a McCook timeout that did little to stem the tide.
Indian Hills, which entered as a heavy favorite with a 74.9% win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, validated that projection by controlling every facet of the game. The Warriors shot 55.6% from the field compared to McCook’s 44.4% and were particularly lethal from beyond the arc, hitting 12 of 23 attempts. McCook managed only one 3-pointer on 10 tries. A commanding 43-22 advantage in total rebounds underscored Indian Hills’ physical control.
Chiang Ring led all scorers and was the top star for Indian Hills, delivering 20 points and eight rebounds in just 22 minutes of action. His performance marked a significant scoring uptick from his previous two outings. He was complemented by a double-double from Sawyer Mayhugh, who had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and 16 points from Ater Manyuon. The Warriors’ balance was evident as six players scored in double figures, including Mason Costello with nine points and six rebounds, Xavier Wilson with 12 points and four assists, Taj Au-Duke with 10 points and Chaz Watson with 11 points.
For McCook, which fell to 7-4, Mo Diao led the way with 20 points and three blocks. Nate Coley added 12 points, but the Indians were hampered by 21 turnovers and an offensive rating of just 80.1 points per 100 possessions, a stark contrast to the Warriors’ efficient 120.1 rating.
The victory extended Indian Hills’ winning streak and avenged a prior meeting from Nov. 21, though the Warriors also won that contest 88-73. McCook will look to regroup on the road at Snow and Salt Lake on Dec. 18 and 19. Indian Hills travels to face Mineral Area on Saturday.
