Cowley vs Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Interstat) — A surging Cowley College men’s basketball team will look to extend its win streak when it visits a Hutchinson Community College squad seeking consistency in a key early-season junior college matchup Saturday.

The Tigers (6-2) have won three straight, including a dominant 96-76 home victory over Coffeyville on Wednesday. The Blue Dragons (5-4) are coming off a narrow 58-57 road win at Barton, snapping a two-game skid.

Cowley’s offense has been potent during its streak, averaging 89.7 points per game. A key catalyst is forward Chase Robinson, who is coming off a standout performance. Against Coffeyville, Robinson logged 22 minutes, scoring 14 points and securing 11 rebounds for a double-double, adding four assists. His activity provides a major boost for the Tigers.

Hutchinson will counter with guard Kyrell Shaw, a dynamic scorer capable of carrying the offensive load. Shaw scored 18 points in the win at Barton and had a spectacular 37-point, 13-rebound outing in a November win over Lamar. His production will be vital against a confident Cowley defense.

The Blue Dragons have experienced dramatic swings, with four of their games decided by three points or fewer. They are 2-2 in those contests. Cowley has shown more recent explosiveness, but its two losses also came by a combined 10 points.

This contest represents a final test for both programs before the holiday break. Hutchinson will look to defend its home court and even its conference record, while Cowley aims to solidify its strong start to the season. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon at the Sports Arena.
