Sequoias vs Los Angeles Southwest

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Sequoias Giants, coming off a narrow road victory, will look to continue their strong start when they face the Los Angeles Southwest Cougars in a men’s junior college basketball game Friday.

The non-conference matchup, part of the Milt Stowe Classic, pits a hot Sequoias squad against a Cougars team seeking consistency.

Sequoias (3-1) arrives with momentum after a 70-67 win at Cosumnes River on Nov. 15. Cameron Kelly led the Giants with 22 points and five rebounds in that contest, supported by Jayden Abuyen’s 14 points and six rebounds. The Giants’ only loss this season was a 77-53 defeat to Fullerton on Nov. 1.

Los Angeles Southwest (4-4) is looking to rebound from a high-scoring, double-overtime loss, falling 122-114 at Ventura on Tuesday. Despite the defeat, the Cougars’ offense was potent, led by Karifala Conde’s 28 points and 11 rebounds. Alusine Barrie added 25 points and Demaree Collins scored 24 in the shootout.

The game will be a test of Sequoias’ defense against a Cougars team capable of explosive scoring, having surpassed 100 points twice this season. The Giants will aim to control the tempo behind Kelly and Abuyen.

Tipoff is set for Friday at Los Angeles Southwest College.
