Butler (Kan.) vs Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (Interstat) — A key early-season men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Wednesday at Conestoga Arena as the Garden City Broncbusters host the Butler (Kan.) Grizzly Bears.

Both teams enter with identical 7-1 records in Kansas Jayhawk Conference play. The Broncbusters, 7-1 overall, are riding a four-game win streak, most recently edging Fort Hays Tech 98-95 on Nov. 25 behind 29 points from Devonte Reed and a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double from Xavier Johnson.

The Grizzly Bears (7-3 overall) are coming off an explosive 132-97 home victory over Fort Hays Tech this past Saturday. Butler displayed balanced scoring in that win, with Aiven Riley scoring 22 points, Devin Kerr adding 17 points and nine rebounds, and Tristan Hankins contributing 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Butler’s high-powered offense, which has scored 98 or more points in eight of its ten games, will test a Garden City defense that has held its last three opponents under 85 points. The Broncbusters’ lone loss came on the road against North Platte on Nov. 12.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST. Garden City travels to Independence on Saturday, while Butler’s next game is at home against Independence on Dec. 10.
